PinkNoise is a New York-based chamber ensemble dedicated to musical improvisation and compositions in acoustic and electronic mediums as a reaction and response to the conditions of our community and our society. Our mission is to reveal how improvisation in musical performances lies at the intersection of historical and contemporary works, and how it is a synthesis of multifarious cultures and styles from the past and the present that connect us to our conscience in society. We also believe in performing new works by composers in acoustic and electronic mediums and collaborating with visual artists and writers to present music as a collaborative and interdisciplinary art form.
Each member of the ensemble is a performer, composer, and creator committed to inverting, translating, reflecting, and transcending the boundaries of both old and new music to present a kaleidoscopic range of performances that connect us to our sensibilities and conscience.
PinkNoise is a recipient of grant awards from the Amphion Foundation and the Fritz Reiner Center for Contemporary Music.

Our return to the shared concert experience, and the opening of our season, begins with a program moving from darkness to light.
Throughout the centuries, the trumpet has provided a clarion call to humanity—to fight, to worship, to acclaim, or to celebrate. Principal Trumpet Karen Donnelly has composed a moving hymn for solo trumpet which leads us into the beauty and sorrow of Trevor Weston’s “Ashes” for unaccompanied voices. Commissioned in 2002 for the choir of New York’s Trinity Wall Street, “Ashes” evokes the sound and colour of the world in ashes after the fall of the World Trade Center, and is a touchstone for remembrance as the world marks the 20th anniversary of 9/11.
“Ninaivanjali” is a Tamil expression that means “in memory of,” and Gabriel Dharmoo’s enigmatic creation of the same name pays tribute to Dharmoo’s Indian rhythm teacher.
Our concert closes with Tchaikovsky’s exhilarating Symphony No. 4, dedicated to his patron and “best friend” Nadezhda von Meck. From beginning to end, this beautiful work grows persuasively from melancholy to triumph—urgent, supercharged, and jubilant.

Take a jet boat down the Colorado River through spectacular red rock canyons to “nature’s own concert hall” (The New York Times) – an acoustically perfect wilderness Grotto carved from the surrounding red rock walls. Virtuosos Jason Vieaux, guitar, and Kristin Lee, violin, open the concert with Bach, The Red Violin, and a duo by Vivian Fung. The Junction Trio creates a contrasting sonority with Beethoven’s majestic “Archduke” Trio. The last of his piano trios, the “Archduke,” exhibits the profound nobility, breadth, and depth that define Beethoven’s later works. A light reception with the artists precedes the glorious boat ride home.
