Mozart & Now reimagines the concert weekend experience with three unique performances contrasting the music of Mozart alongside contemporary works by some of today’s brightest composers. From Friday to Saturday, hear three of Mozart’s most revered compositions including the scintillating Symphony No. 35, his “Gran partita” Serenade featuring the entire woodwind section, and the “Coronation” Mass alongside modern works by Joel Thompson, Vivian Fung, and Gabriela Lena Frank.

Experience an exciting blend of contemporary and classical music, with a program that truly has something to offer every orchestral music fan. This evening's concert opens with two LPO premieres- Vivian Fung’s energetic Dust Devils, a vivid and energetic work inspired by nature's forces, and Emmanuel Séjourné’s virtuosic marimba concerto, featuring the talents of LPO’s own principal percussionist Aaron Smith. We end the night with one of Dvořák’s grandest works, his moody and passionate Symphony No. 7.

The PSO’s final mainstage performance of the season features two powerfully evocative works: Vivian Fung’s Dust Devils and Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations. Dust Devils captures the journey of emotional swirls in the mind—both calm and full of raw intense energy. Enigma Variations tours us through the personal landscape of Elgar’s life with a selection of musical characterizations of the people who were closest to him. The concert will also include a performance by the 2023 Young Artist Competition winner.

Portsmouth Symphony performs "Dust Devils"

Join us for a colorful and vibrant Spring Concert. Audiences will be thrilled by Asian Canadian composer Vivian Fung’s outstanding and virtuosic work, Dust Devils. The 2020 and 2022 Young Artist Competition winners’ performances celebrate our young talent with optimism and hope for the future. Concluding the performance and rounding out the PSO’s 24th Mainstage season is Dvorak’s brilliant and luminous New World Symphony.

All concerts begin at 3:00 pm and are preceded at 1:45 pm by Inside the Music, a free pre-concert discussion that provides entertaining insight into the afternoon’s program.
